BBC has a very interesting article on Microsoft as open source.
It’s fascinating to think about to be honest. Microsoft really could do more with Linux in a year than anyone has managed to do since its inception. I know its blasphemy, but its definitely something they might think about. What difference does it make, people pay for RHES don’t they? Not charging for a linux distro but charging on support is their total “Software as a Service

Hairspray just rocked. The kind of musical that makes you want to dance (not that I can).
It was a lot of fun. Dinner was pretty good, but one of our summers forgot his ticket! I think everything worked out in the end though. Its late, I’m tired. My mom is coming in tomorrow for a little while.
I got an email from Jaime telling me that when I return from Budapest, I’m eligible to speak in her geography class! Maybe I’ll take her up on it over spring break. Or maybe I’ll go to Turks and Caicos to try and dive the reef. Maybe I can do both!
I’m trying to set up a wordpress blog on my computer (which is now running ubuntu, more on that later I’m sure). I’m not particularly fond of blogspot (or the blogger interface), but I think I’m going to have to deal with it for now. I really wish there was an easier way to import posts into wordpress though (and I know about the importer, but its not all its cracked up to be).
Anyway, I think I’m sticking with blogger for now.

This is my last week of work right now. I think everything is going to work out, and hopefully I’ll end up in DC permanently. I’m still interested in meeting with the asset management folks though. I’m having lunch with Barry on Monday!
Tomorrow I’ve got Hairspray at the Kennedy Center. That should be kind of cool. Speaking of asset management, I’m sitting with a couple of people from that group at the musical.
I had a big GTMO meeting today, and I got a couple of new assignments. The assignments look like they’re going to be interesting.
Anyway, I’m feeling particularly tired right now, time for some sleep!

ESPN.com - MLB - Recap - Braves at Giants
I’m absolutely ecstatic at the fact that we are within a half a game. I thought it was only a matter of time. The Braves simply have the best organization in baseball in terms of operating within a constrained environment. Certainly the Yanks (and even the Sox to some extent) have unlimited money, so their operating constraints are different. There is just something about John Schuerholz, Frank Wren, Bobby Cox, and the rest of the gang. I also happen to think they have an incredible medical staff, but I might be biased.
Of course living in DC, I’m sad to see the Nats falling apart the way they are. I don’t have any idea what’s going on with Livan. That is just ridiculous. He’s retiring because he’s mad at something, but he won’t tell anyone what, and he’s going to have a knee surgery he doesn’t need? Where have I seen this before? That kind of behavior is just ridiculous for a professional athlete. You get paid a lot of money to play the game. Deal with it.

Apple Matters
I’ve got to say that I think most of the ideas here are just tiny gripes. The Command/Control thing is just like saying you want PC manufacturers to remove the windows key from the keyboard. Or how about everyone just remove the ‘z’ key (I barely use it). Far more annoying than this is the nonstandard layouts that every manufacturer uses for laptops. If there were a standard layout, things would be so much easier to change between!
The Save button?!? Give me a break. Use those command keys you were just complaining about
I will say that the multibutton mouse is huge however. He’s dead right that expose and dashboard are just begging for a mouse button!

I did lunch today at Butterfield 9 with Tiffany and Maria (two people from litigation). The place was alright, but I’ve got to be honest, it was a little fancy-schmancy for my tastes. I ended up getting a pan-seared strip steak, which I thought was incredible. We returned to the office just in time for the ice cream social. The ice cream was pretty good (I think it was Häagen-Dazs).
Anyway, back to work.

I did lunch with Jenny, Karen and Jeff today. It was quite the splendiferous time. We went to Cafe Atlantico. I’ve got to say that the guacamole was quite good. It doesn’t beat Rosa Mexicano or Dos Caminos, but it’s close!

I spent Wednesday and Thursday in New York last week. It was a pretty decent time. My team won Deal-O-Rama (don’t ask) and I had to do the litigation portion and make the presentation to the board. I got to go to a Met’s game with Jackie, which rocked. We had primo seats in the visitors owners box. As per usual, people thought my dad was Ted Turner. I have to admit, with my dad’s current haircut, he looks something like Ted.
I have successfully obtained my Hungarian visa! The Hungarian embassy doesn’t keep the easiest hours, but hey, it’s done. I now have my visa, plane tickets and eurail pass. All I need now is a place to live.
I’m getting fired up for going around Europe. I’m planning my trip right now. It looks like I’m going to do Paris, London and Ireland first, then return to Budapest for a day or two to regroup. Probably going to hit Germany, Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxemborg next. Both of those trips should take about 5 or 6 days. By then we’ll have a little less than 2 weeks of traveling before classes start. For the last trip, I think I’m going to do Italy, Greece, Barcelona, and the French Riviera.
Time for me to get to work, I’ve got a couple of assignments and I’m close to finishing them up!

I’m off to Deal-O-Rama in New York City. I’ll be back on Friday at two. If you’re in the city, lets hit McSorley’s for some drinks!

I just got back from a long bike ride around DC. I went to pretty much every monument in the city!
In other news, I’ve been having some trouble with the Hungarian embassy, but it should all be resolved on Monday. I’m also a little pissed that no one has gotten back to me regarding housing in Hungary from CEU. Jen gave me the information for the broker that White & Case uses over there, so I think I’m going to try and call there sometime soon.
