Another Lazy Day

Posted by sethbc on January 07, 2006

Today was less lazy than yesterday, but only marginally so. I did manage to leave the house once to go get some blank dvd’s, but other than that, I’ve done absolutely nothing. I think tonight I’m going to go out to dinner with a friend from high school, but other than that I have no plans.

Casablanca

Posted by sethbc on January 06, 2006

Tonight was almost as uneventful as the day. Evan and I watched Casablanca tonight, and then I immediately headed home. I’m freaking exhausted and would really like to get some sleep tonight.

Ugh…

I’m sick as a dog right now. Ugh.

Fear and Loathing

Posted by sethbc on January 06, 2006

I just finished reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson. The book was utterly amazing. It’s both a very difficult read, and a piece of brain candy at the same time. The book amounts to only 200 pages, but at times the material must be read over and over simply to comprehend it. I can’t really describe it (and do it justice) though. Now I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t know how faithful it is to the book, but I’ll be watching that as soon as I can.

In other news, “I’ve got blisters on my fingers!” from learning to play some Elliott Smith songs today. I think I almost have Miss Misery down pat, and I’m learning Say Yes.

Finally, Paige and I went on a run today. I was exhausted (mostly because I ran yesterday as well), and didn’t make it as far as I would like. I’m a little sore from all the working-out I did yesterday too. Hopefully that will subside after I get some sleep.

Hodgepodge

Posted by sethbc on January 02, 2006

Last night I was over at Evan’s again, this time playing in a small 4-handed poker game. The game was no-limit, small buy-in. We had a pretty good time, and I actually did pretty well considering I was probably the most inexperienced player at the table (I also have the attention span of a gnat, so thinking about what someone is holding often escapes me).

Today has been a day of errands. I went to the mall and got a boat-load of new clothes, including: a leather jacket, three pairs of boots, two pairs of jeans, a pair of cords, and finally some miscellaneous socks. After the mall, I spent an hour driving around looking for Atlanta Ski and Snowboard (the delay was almost certainly due to my own incompetence). When I finally managed to locate their establishment, I got fitted in my boots, and checked out my skis and bindings. The setup is absolutely sick! The bindings and skis look awesome, and the boots are rock-solid. I ended up fitting better in the 30.5 boot, so I went with that one (particularly for the width of my foot in the toe box).

I’m really excited about tomorrow, because I finally get my camera. The weather has been awful here, but I was hoping to get some decent photos and start doing some editing. As noted in a previous post, I’ve had the lens for a number of days, but I’m still waiting on the camera. I’m pretty sure that Amazon requires a signature for the camera, so I’ll stay home tomorrow and wait it out.

Oh, a complete non sequitur, but I restrung my guitar a couple days ago, and have been doing some playing. I’m trying to pick up some Elliott Smith, but the experience can be humbling at times. His stuff ranges in difficulty from ‘moderate’ to ‘impossible to do with only one guitar’.

Alright, I think I’m going to spend the rest of the day either 1) at a Starbucks, or 2) firmly planted on the couch watching football. The difficulty is picking which thing I want to do. Any reluctance on my part to frequent the Starbucks this evening is solely due to the fact that I am exceedingly lazy. On the other hand, I really want a caramel light frappuccino. Decisions, decisions.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I spent the night restringing my guitar, and about 10:30 went over to a friend of Evan’s to hang out. They were all (pretty much) russians, and an Indian, though native Londoner. There was a lot of discussion on religion, politics, tractors, etc. It made for a very multi-cultural, but festive, atmosphere! We played a very interesting game called Mafia, which, if you haven’t played, is worth trying. Anyway, it’s getting to be that time where I pass out. G’night, and hope everyone got (or gets) home safe!

December 30, 2005

I crashed at Evan’s again last night. We went out to Rock Bottom and watched a movie called 25th hour. Not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but it was definitely a little slow to get started. Kind of an introspective flick. Spike Lee made a good flick though. He definitely was able to capture both the relationships and the feelings on screen.

I was contemplating picking up Evan’s girlfriend from the airport with him, but I decided to go to Best Buy to pick up some accessories for my camera. I ended up getting a 4GB CF drive really cheap (which i’ll probably use for RAW+JPEG), a 1GB Ultra II Samsung (for JPEG), and a card reader for my mac. The card reader is actually a little ridiculous — it must support every kind of flash I’ve ever seen.

Other than that, today has been kind of a dull day, except for the WWF-style smack-down I laid on the customer service representatives at Amazon. I was supposed to get my camera today, but of course all I got was the lens. Go figure! Anyway, it’ll be here on Tuesday, and they gave me a bit of a discount and didn’t make me pay for the shipping. Dinner tonight was at Circle Sushi. The tuna tonight was absolutely incredible.

Dinner and Cards

Posted by sethbc on December 29, 2005

Last night I went out to dinner with Holly, my best friend from kindergarten. We ended up going to the California Pizza Kitchen, and then out to Starbucks for a cup of coffee. Believe it or not, I actually ordered a plain coffee!

Post-Coffee I went down to midtown to hang out with Evan and Joey, and one of Evan’s friends from Tech came down and played some cards with us. All in all, a pretty successful night.

Last night I finished “It’s not about the bike.” All-in-all it wasn’t a bad book. The writing style was terse, and in some places repetitive, but I enjoyed the read. It gave an interesting perspective on the mentality of a cancer patient (both pre- and post-treatment).

Family Portrait

Posted by sethbc on December 28, 2005

Let me just say that getting the family portrait taken wasn’t nearly as painful as I expected it to be. Of course, there was the usual “Stand up straight but look relaxed,” “Tilt your head and lower your chin,” etc. etc. But for all intents and purposes, it wasn’t terrible. Near the end, Ben got a low blood sugar and started getting a little testy, but it wasn’t that bad.

After the pictures, we went out to an Irish place near where we live. The food was absolutely excellent, though the service could have used a tad bit of work.

Dinner

Posted by sethbc on December 28, 2005

As it turns out, Elliot and Ben joined us for dinner! We went out to El Azteca, and had a nice little Mexican dinner.

Well, we have a family portrait scheduled in 12 hours, so I’m going to get some sleep now. I guess my mom wanted some pictures of me after the weight loss :-)
